Made in China recalls keep coming

Made in China recalls keep coming The Consumer Product Safety Commission and toy manufacturers continue to issue recalls for products made in China.
Last week El Segundo, Calif.-based Mattel announced its third major recall this summer, this time for Barbie doll play set accessories and for a Fischer-Price locomotive and plastic drum set due to excessive amounts of lead in the paint.
In late August, Toys “R” Us recalled thousands of Imaginarium wooden coloring sets because of high lead levels in some of the paint. The printed ink on the outside of the packaging also contains lead, the recall notice said.
In a statement to the Associated Press, the company said it has terminated its relationship with Funtastic, a unit of a Hong Kong distribution company called FPL Group. The products are made by Danxiang International Trading in Ningbo, China.
In mid-August, Toys “R” Us removed 160,000 vinyl baby bibs from its Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores and warehouses as a precaution after two bibs made in China for a supplier, Hamco, showed lead that exceeded company standards.
Toys “R” Us said it asked Bureau Veritas, an independent testing and compliance verification firm, to retest samples of Hamco-made bibs sold by the company. The analysis turned up the samples that contained lead above the Toys “R” Us standard.
