New large ship-to-shore cranes for Tacoma    Four large container cranes built in China have arrived at the port of Tacoma, where they will be used at the future Pierce County Terminal.
   The cranes have an outreach of 209 feet, which would enable them to handle 23-container-wide containerships. “They will serve today’s generation of 150-foot-wide ships, as well as tomorrow’s generation of 200-foot-wide ships,” said Timothy J. Farrell, acting executive director of the port of Tacoma. A fifth crane will arrive at the port in October.
   The port of Tacoma is nearing completion of the Pierce County Terminal — a $210-million, 171-acre project. Ultimately, the facility can be enlarged to 237 acres with annual throughput capacity of 1.2 million TEUs, the port said.
   Evergreen Marine (Taiwan) is scheduled to take possession of the new facility in January 2005.
