Senate approves STB, FMC nominations

   The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation on Thursday approved the appointment of Ann D. Begeman, to the Surface Transportation Board and Mario Cordero as a Federal Maritime Commissioner. It also approved the reappointment of Rebecca F. Dye to the FMC.
   Begeman will replace Republican Charles D. Nottingham, the vice chairman of the three-person STB. Begeman has been the minority staff director to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation since 2009. She rejoined the committee in May 2009 as a staff member after serving as the legislative director to Sen. John McCain from 2004 to 2009. From 1995 to 2004, she held several positions on the Senate Commerce Committee.
   Cordero’s appointment will give the FMC a full, five-person complement for the first time since December 2006. Mario Cordero is a Long Beach Harbor Commissioner and attorney.
   Dye has been a member of the FMC since 2002.
