Kingston Wharves, Cartagena again top Caribbean ports

Kingston Wharves, Cartagena again top Caribbean ports Kingston Wharves in Jamaica and the SPRC container terminal in Cartagena, Colombia have once again been selected as the top ports in the Caribbean Basin by the Caribbean Shipping Association.
   Kingston Wharves was selected as the best multipurpose terminal in the Caribbean, and SPRC (Sociedad Portuaria Regional De Cartagena) was named best container terminal.
   Cartagena won for the third consecutive year, while Kingston Wharves won the award for the second consecutive year.
   The selections are based on efficiency and dependability. Size is not a factor, meaning any port could win the competition.
   Kingston Wharves handles breakbulk shipments and serves a variety of ships. Kingston is best known for its container terminal managed by APM.
   Cartagena has grown to become a major transshipment center in the Caribbean. Port officials predict it will handle 900,000 TEUs of containerized cargo during 2007.
   This year marked the 20th time the CSA has presented the annual ports awards.
