BALTIMORE ILA WORKERS GAIN LESSONS IN RO/RO CARGO HANDLING    More than 300 waterfront workers in the Port of Baltimore received education and training on the latest techniques for handling large equipment shipments.
   The program, Ro/Ro Rodeo, was held Wednesday and was sponsored by the Maryland Port Administration, Steamship Trade Association and the International Longshoremen’s Association.
   “The education and training program gives hundreds of members of ILA Local 333 a chance to master the skills of maneuvering a variety of roll-on/roll-off vehicles at the port,” the Maryland Port Administration said.
   The port administration also said the program gives the ILA the chance to demonstrate their expertise in handling ro/ro equipment to shippers and ocean carriers.
   In addition, equipment manufacturers, such as CNH, John Deere, Fendt, AGCO, Massey Furguson, JLG, Wirtgen and Ingersoll-Rand, were on hand to explain operating procedures and answer questions about their ro/ro equipment.
   The Port of Baltimore is ranked the largest East Coast port for wheeled equipment shipments, with a market share of 48 percent.
