In February, the PAG released a draft version of the $193 million master plan as developed by New York City-based international consulting firm Parsons Brinckerhoff.
The report calls for the commercial port to be modernized and expanded to handle a projected near doubling of TEU volume at the facility by 2015. Last year, the port moved 175,000 TEUS and the report projects that by 2015 volumes would increase to 323,000 per year.
The report details projects to be addressed to meet the projections, including adding berths, gate facilities and terminal space. The port would also need four gantry cranes, five top picks, 25 hostlers, 50 yard chassis, six side picks, two B/B ship cranes, eight trailers and 10 forklifts, the report said.
Of the $193 million price tag, $2.5 million would be allocated for a new truck gate, $7 million for each of the four cranes recommended and $42.3 million for building new berths.
'At that point in time it will be our official roadmap,' the port authority's acting general manager Carlos Salas told KUAM News, 'where it will be the basis and it will be the grounds for us moving forward with all of our modernization plans that we have been communicating to the public.'
