OSHA restarts maritime safety advisory committee

OSHA restarts maritime safety advisory committee    The U.S. Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has reestablished a committee to provide it with advice about labor conditions in the maritime industry.
   The Maritime Advisory Committee on Safety and Health (MACOSH) has not met since April 1, 2005, when its federal charter expired. On June 26, the labor secretary announced a new charter for the committee.
   OSHA watches over the maritime industry because of incidence of illness and injuries, and the “specialized nature of some of the work.”
   The new committee comprises 15 representatives from the shipyards and various shipboard and dockworkers unions. A list of the members is available online at https://a257.g.akamaitech.net/7/257/2422/01jan20061800/edocket.access.gpo.gov/2006/06-6746.htm.
   OSHA plans to hold three MACOSH meetings a year. The next meeting will be held in either September or October. OSHA said it will post the meeting date in the Federal Register.
