USTDA awards $257,000 grant for Egypt river transport study    The U.S. Trade and Development Agency has released a $257,000 grant for a study of Egypt’s river freight transportation system.
   The Nile River has played a historic role in Egypt’s domestic economy. However, transport on the river has dwindled due to the development of the country’s national highway network.
   Egypt’s River Transport Authority wants to revitalize river transport in the country for both economic and environmental improvement.
   The USTDA-funded study will involve data gathering, evaluation and recommendations for a Nile vessel traffic management information system.
   The River Transport Authority has asked Soquel, Calif.-based Radar-Digital Systems and Amreeka Development Corp. of Nashville, Tenn., to do the study.
