Schiphol Airport’s growth soars in Q1

The Dutch hub handled a record 420,168 metric tons during the first quarter of 2017 with the Asia and Europe markets experiencing the most growth.    Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport handled a record 420,168 metric tons of cargo during the first quarter of 2017, an increase of 8 percent year-over-year, the airport said.
   In March alone, the airport handled 154,000 metric tons of cargo, a year-over-year increase of 9.5 percent, thanks to 7.2 percent growth in full freighter volumes and 13.2 percent growth in belly volumes.
   Asia is still the largest market for the Dutch hub, with Shanghai remaining as the busiest cargo destination.
   During the quarter, Asia inbound freight totaled 70,648 metric tons, while Asia outbound freight stood at 74,332 metric tons, up 4 percent and 12 percent year-over-year, respectively.
