Hamburg, Germany-based ship manager E.R. Schiffahrt has been retained by Maersk Line for the management of three ships, supplementing a current six-vessel management contract, the company said Friday.
The new agreement, which began July 13, comprises the management of three 8,400-TEU container vessels and includes the crew and technical management, as well as additional services relating to safety/security, environmental protection and energy efficiency, according to ER Schiffahrt.
With this new agreement, ER Schiffahrt now increases the managed fleet for the world’s largest liner company from six vessels to nine.
“We are pleased to manage three further vessels for Maersk Line and thus be able to deepen the successful partnership that we started one and a half years ago,” ER Schiffahrt CEO Nils Aden said in a statement.
The eleven-year-old container vessels will be bare boat chartered by Maersk and continue to trade as the Maersk Saigon, Maersk Stralsund and Maersk Seoul, ER Schiffahrt said.
According to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting, all three ships serve on the 2M Alliance’s TP16/Emerald loop between Asia, the U.S. Southeast and the Caribbean.
The TP16/Emerald operates with 11 vessels with an average capacity of 8,733 TEUs. The service has a full port rotation of Hong Kong, Yantian, Busan, Savannah, Norfolk, Charleston, Miami, Freeport (Bahamas), and back to Hong Kong.
