The ship will transport the load — which Norfolk Southern officials say is a record not just for the pier, but for the entire United States — to steel producers in China. The previous Pier 6 loading record, set Sept. 18, was 166,840 nt tons.
The coal arrived at Pier 6, the company’s transload facility, in 1,592 railroad cars shipped by Xcoal Energy and Resources.
