DHL to build New York service center

DHL to build New York service center    DHL, a provider of global express delivery and logistics services, said it plans to build its largest U.S. service center in New York City.
   The $181 million facility will consolidate two existing DHL service locations into a new 161,125-square-foot center for pickup, delivery and sorting operations in Manhattan.
   Located at 500 10th Ave. between 39th Street and 38th Street, near the Lincoln Tunnel, the facility will increase current throughput capacity from 10,000 to 15,000 letters and parcel shipments per hour.
   The Manhattan service center will be operational in May. DHL expects to add 44,225 square feet to the facility by fall 2007.
   The center will operate 24 hours a day, Monday through Friday, and until 6 p.m. on Saturday. DHL's investment includes a 20-year lease, construction of the new facility, and capital improvements.
