Cal Maritime Academy security courses approved by DHS

Cal Maritime Academy security courses approved by DHS The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has approved three maritime security courses to be offered at the California Maritime Academy.
   Designed to meet the requirements of the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 for licensed mariners, shipping company senior personnel and port terminal management staff, the three courses are:
   ' Combined Company, Vessel and Facility Security Officer.
   ' Basic Maritime Security Awareness.
   ' First Responder Operational Maritime Security.
   Among the topic to be covered by the courses are regulatory issues, security assessments, hazardous material releases and weapons of mass destruction.
   The courses will be offered through the CMA's Sponsored Projects and Extended Learning Department on a scheduled basis with two of the three also integrated into the CMA undergraduate program.
   CMA offers maritime security courses certified by the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Maritime Administration and DHS as meeting the requirements of the MTSA, the International Maritime Organization's International Ship and Port Security Code, and state and federal emergency management standards. According to CMA, the courses are eligible for DHS grant reimbursement under the Homeland Security and Port Security Grant Programs.
   Located in Vallejo, Calif., the CMA is part of the California State University system and is one of only seven degree-granting maritime academies in the United States, and the only one on the West Coast.
