Hutchison Ports Thailand strengthens footprint in Laem Chabang

The port operator took delivery of three super post-Panamax quay cranes for its Terminal D at Laem Chabang Port.    Hutchison Ports Thailand received three super post-Panamax quay cranes for its Terminal D at Laem Chabang Port.
   The new cranes, which will expand Hutchinson Ports Thailand’s handling capacity at the terminal, are equipped with remote control technology for safer, more efficient operations, enabling the terminal to achieve higher levels of vessel and yard productivity, the port operator said.
   The cranes have an outreach of 24 rows and are capable of handling some of the largest mega-vessels currently in operation. As a result, the cranes will allow Terminal D, which is currently under construction, to increase its handling capacity by 3.5 million TEUs to more than 6 million TEUs.
   “The arrival of the new cranes will facilitate the growth of Thailand’s container cargo volumes and help underpin the country’s modernization aligned with the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) project under the Thailand 4.0 scheme,” the port operator said. The EEC project is an infrastructure plan to upgrade ports and other facilities that connect to China and the rest of Southeast Asia.
