Southern Air moves headquarters

Cargo plane operator Southern Air is moving from its long-time home in Norwalk, Conn., to Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport by March.
Further details, such as the impact of the move on employees, were not released.
In a statement, a company spokesman said the move was agreed on after careful analysis and is seen as the best way to position the company for the future.
“Bringing together our operations and corporate activities in a location near our largest hub of activity is part of our financial and strategic plans to operate more effectively and grow our business for the long term,“ according to the statement. “All employees affected by this planned closure will be treated with fairness and respect, and will be provided support and assistance.”
The company filed for bankruptcy on Sept. 28, with the aim of restructuring corporate debt and costs associated with its acquisition by Oak Hill Capital Partners in 2007. At the time of the filing, Southern Air’s legacy debt stood at $285 million.
The restructuring was part of a change from a high-maintenance, labor-intensive fleet to a streamlined, modern fleet of Boeing 777s and 747-400s, Dan McHugh, Southern Air’s chief executive officer, said at the time. In the first few months of 2012, the company added two new 777 freighters to its fleet to be used by DHL Express, bringing its 777 fleet up to four planes. – Jon Ross
