JNPT awards dredging project contract

The 250 million euro (U.S. $266.3 million) contract to deepen and widen the access channel towards Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Mumbai, India was awarded to Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and Jan De Nul.    Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai, India has awarded Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. and Jan De Nul with a joint venture contract to dredge and widen the access channel into JNPT.
   The project is expected to start in the coming weeks and is slated for completion within two years, Boskalis and Jan De Nul said.
   The contract carries a value of approximately 250 million euros (U.S. $266.3 million), with Boskalis and Jan De Nul each holding a 50 percent share.
   The joint venture will dredge the 35.5-kilometer long access channel and the various turning basins and anchorage areas alongside it. A jumbo trailing suction hopper dredger will be deployed, along with a jumbo cutter suction dredger and large backhoe.
