Long Beach November volume falls

   Cargo volume at the Southern California Port of Long Beach plummeted in November by more than 17 percent year-on-year, including a 15.6 percent drop in loaded imports, according to port statistics released this week.
   Meanwhile, the Port of Los Angeles saw import volume climb 6.2 percent in November year-on-year, to 354,313 TEUs, and exports rose 15 percent, to a record 195,877 TEUs during the month.
   Long Beach import volume fell to 231,749 TEUs in November. Export volume fell 22.2 percent year-on-year, to 111,011 TEUs. Empties declined 17.1 percent, to 117,121 TEUs. Total volume fell to 459,881 TEUs, down 17.6 percent from the same month in 2010.
   In Los Angeles, total loaded volume rose 9.2 percent, to 550,190 TEUs, while total volume (including empties) rose 4.1 percent, to 694,108 TEUs.
   For the year, Los Angeles’ volume is up 1 percent year-on-year, to 7.3 million TEUs. Long Beach’s volume has fallen 3.3 percent, to 5.5 million TEUs. Taken together, the ports handled 12.8 million TEUs through November, up roughly 1 percent from the same period in 2010.
