MORE CARRIERS ADD MANZANILLO TO ASIA/SOUTH AMERICA SERVICE

MORE CARRIERS ADD MANZANILLO TO ASIA/SOUTH AMERICA SERVICE    P&O Nedlloyd, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Compania Chilena de Navegacion Interoceanica and “K” Line are the latest carriers to have added a call at Manzanillo, Mexico, to their liner service between Asia and the West Coast of South America.
   The P&O Nedlloyd/MOL/CCNI/”K” Line joint LACAS operation is the fourth service that calls at the Mexican West Coast port as part of an extended Asia/Mexico/West Coast of South America rotation.
   Vessels in the service now call eastbound at Manzanillo every eight days, before proceeding to South America. The Mexican call enables the carriers to provide an eastbound transpacific service to Mexico and a southbound link from Mexico to South America.
   The service has a rotation of Singapore, Hong Kong, Keelung, Busan, Kobe, Yokohama, Manzanillo, Buenaventura/Guayaquil, Callao, Iquique, Antofagasta, Valparaiso, Lirquen, Guayaquil, Buenaventura, Yokohama, Kobe, Singapore, Hong Kong, Keelung and Busan.
   According to ComPairData, the global shipping database on the Internet at www.compairdata.com, Compania Sud Americana de Vapores, NYK, Kien Hung, TMM Lines, Maruba and Lykes Lines also operate Asia/Manzanillo/West Coast of South America services.
   Manzanillo, located West of Mexico City, handled one million TEUs in 1999.
