COSCO Pacific volumes drop everywhere but Bohai Bay

COSCO Pacific volumes drop everywhere but Bohai Bay    Volume at COSCO Pacific’s major Chinese container terminals continued to fall in June, with throughput at its Shanghai, Yantian and Hong Kong terminals down 13 percent to 27 percent from the same month in 2008.
However, the terminal operator is seeing growth or stability at its Bohai Rim terminals. COSCO’s terminal at Qingdao is now its largest, with volume up 3 percent to 757,100 TEUs in June, while volume at Dalian grew 7.3 percent to 237,700 TEUs.

Throughput at its two Shanghai terminals fell 22.5 percent to 432,600 TEUs, and 13.2 percent, to 685,500 TEUs at its Yantian terminal. Hong Kong volume fell 27.3 percent to 114,100 TEUs. Its other major South China terminal, in Nansha, saw no growth with 200,100 TEUs handled, the same as in June 2008.
Overall, volume at COSCO’s 20 global terminals (17 of which are in China) fell 7.9 percent to 3.7 million TEUs in June. For the year, the operator’s volume is down 8.5 percent to 20.2 million TEUs.
