Samskip buying 50% interest in Canadian frozen food specialist

Samskip buying 50% interest in Canadian frozen food specialist Iceland’s Samskip has secured its first cold-store capacity in North America by agreeing to purchase a 50 percent interest in Canadian frozen food specialist Bayside Food Terminal. No financial details were disclosed.
   Located in Bayside, New Brunswick, Bayside Food Terminal has 12,000 tons of cold-store capacity and focuses mainly on the Alaskan frozen fish market. It also operates as a stevedoring company and ships’ agency.
   “With this facility, we are able to comply with requests received from many of our customers to offer a reefer centre on the Canadian east coast,” said Johan Kloosterboer, managing director, Samskip Coldstore Division.
