Commentary: No. 1 spot in Florida box port rankings

   A Nov. 4 AS Daily article, “Port Everglades widens lead among Florida container ports,” on container volumes at various Florida seaports omitted some important information regarding Jacksonville’s performance.
   It is crucial when comparing ports in the state to note that while the Jacksonville Port Authority owns, maintains and markets several marine terminals, these are not the only facilities handling containers in the Port of Jacksonville.
   When the private terminal volumes here are added into the container-TEU count, Jacksonville’s port complex handled 1.2 million TEUs in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2014. 
   According to the data in the AS Daily article, that makes Jacksonville the No. 1 container port in Florida by volume last year.
