The company’s supervisory board appointed Xavier Garijo, 47, to serve as the board member for contract logistics; Thorsten Meincke, 49, for ocean and air freight; and Christian Drenthen, 52, for land transport, a newly created board position.
Garijo, originally from Spain, has many years of experience in management positions at French, British and U.S. companies, most recently at Reckitt Benckiser, Revlon and Elizabeth Arden, Schenker AG said. He will succeed Tom Schmitt, who left the company in July.
Meincke most recently served as the head of global ocean freight at forwarder Kuehne + Nagel. He will succeed Ewald Kaiser as the head of the new air and ocean freight division. Kaiser is expected to leave Schenker AG “at his own request and in mutual agreement with the company” on May 31.
Drenthen, originally from the Netherlands, has been with Schenker AG since 2015. He most recently served as the head of global land transport. Land transport will become its own division, raising the total number of divisions to seven.
Garijo and Drenthen will be assuming their new areas of responsibility on Jan. 1. “Meincke will be joining Schenker AG as soon as possible but no later than June 1,” Thursday’s announcement said.
“The new management board team will lead us into a new era, while at the same time fostering continuity. It will be a further step forward in the development of our company,” said Schenker AG CEO Jochen Thewes.
Alexander Doll, chairman of the supervisory board of DB Schenker, a subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn AG, added, “I am excited that the three newly appointed board members come from such international and diverse backgrounds. DB Schenker under the leadership of Jochen Thewes is now in an excellent position to continue its profitable growth in the global logistics markets.”
The supervisory board also announced Thursday that Oliver Seidl has been confirmed as the CFO of Schenker AG for another five years.
