FAA honors So. Calif. aircraft maintenance firm The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday awarded Southern California Aviation, which maintains cargo planes flying into the Southern California Logistics Airport in Victorville, Calif. Wednesday with the Diamond Award.
   The Diamond Award, which recognizes the amount of training employees within a firm have accumulated, is the highest award the FAA bestows for maintenance training.
   The Victorville-based company is servicing 136 aircraft, with room for a total of 300 aircraft in its yard at the airport.
   'The Diamond Award applies to 100 hours of training, and if a company gets it that means that at least 50 percent of the employees have done 100 hours of training,' said Ian Gregor, spokesperson for the FAA.
   Jim Worsham, business development director at Southern California Logistics Airport, said the award puts SCA in the top 5 percent of the most thoroughly trained and safest aviation maintenance companies in the nation.
   Built on the site of a former Air Force base, the SCLA is an air-rail-truck logistics complex covering more than 2,300 acres in the desert just north of Los Angeles.
