ONE details operational structure, service offerings for 2018

The Ocean Network Express (ONE), comprising Japanese container carriers “K” Line, MOL and NYK, has released details on its partnership structure and service offerings with east-west vessel sharing agreement THE Alliance.    The Ocean Network Express (ONE), a partnership between Japan’s “Big 3” ocean carriers, “K” Line, NYK and MOL, has launched a new operations website and released additional information on their service offerings and commencement dates.
The network’s website, which features magenta branding, as will the combined entity’s vessels, details the organizational structure of the partnership and what customers can expect in coming months. The network’s holding company, which will handle the companies’ organizational governance, will be based in Japan, while its operational headquarters will be located in Singapore. Regional headquarters will be located in Singapore, Hong Kong, Brazil, the United Kingdom and United States.
As reported by American Shipper on Tuesday, ONE will continue to participate on THE Alliance’s revamped east-west network covering over 100 countries. According to the group’s new website, ONE will participate on eight Asia-Europe loops; 16 Asia-North America loops, including five Asia-U.S. East Coast services, three of which will transit the Panama Canal and two that will utilize the Suez Canal route; seven transatlantic Europe-North America loops; and two Asia-Middle East loops. Bookings are expected to open in February 2018, with services becoming operational in April 2018.
ONE stated that its fleet size – the capacity sum of member carriers “K” Line, MOL and NYK – encompasses 1.43 million TEUs, or 7 percent of the global market share, as of October 2017, excluding ships currently on order. In June, Drewry predicted that ONE would immediately become the sixth largest carrier, as measured by containership fleet, and will leapfrog Hapag-Lloyd to become the fifth largest container carrier by 2021, assuming there are no changes to the orderbook in terms of new orders or delivery days.
The group also announced it has placed an order for 10,000 Hi-cube DRY new-building containers from plants in Shanghai, Ningbo, and South China. The design will feature ONE’s company logo and its signature magenta coloring.
