Tampa Cargo gets first Airbus freighter

   Tampa Cargo, a division of AviancaTaca, welcomed the first Airbus 330-200 freighter to be operated in the Americas.
    The plane is the first of four A330-200s to be added to its fleet. The freighters will be used on routes between Latin America and the United States and are part of the airline group’s updated focus on cargo transportation.
   “Trends in the cargo market throughout the Americas encourage us to expand this part of our business. We want both importers and exporters in the region to see AviancaTaca and Tampa Cargo as optimal partners for fulfilling their business objectives. We expect this first Airbus A330-200F freight-only model to become an invaluable support to companies who need to move goods and merchandise throughout the continent,” AviancaTaca Chief Executive Officer Fabio Villegas Ramirez said in a statement.
   The planes, and a new strategy based on invigorating the carrier’s cargo activity, required a number of preparations by the recently combined company, a merger between Avianca and Taca Airlines. They included upgrading facilities in Bogota, Lima and Medellin. Information technology upgrades were made as well, allowing the airlines in the combined group to share cargo information on a single platform. – Jon Ross
