UASC orders 2,000 reefer units

Refrigerated containers are to be deployed in South America market.    United Arab Shipping Co. said it has ordered 2,000 refrigerated containers with energy-efficient compressors from Daikin Industries in Japan as part of its fleet expansion plan.
   The new investment will support new and existing services in the South America trade lane, following its recent cooperation agreement with Hamburg Süd. The company expects delivery of the new units sometime in the first quarter and plans to place more orders for reefer units this year, officials said.
   The container shipping line said the average age of its reefer fleet is three years.
   UASC is a member of the newly-formed Ocean Three vessel sharing agreement, covering the major east-west trade lanes, along with French carrier CMA CGM and CSCL of China.
