Silverjet offering ?carbon neutral? cargo service

Silverjet offering ôcarbon neutralö cargo service Startup British business class and 'carbon neutral' airline Silverjet now offers cargo services on its daily flight between London and New York.
   The airline is offering 10 tons of payload on its scheduled Boeing 767 service from London Luton Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport, and 15 tons in the opposite direction.
   Established in January, Silverjet's fares includes a mandatory carbon offset contribution, which will be recalculated with the extra fuel burn required to transport the cargo.
   Silverjet Cargo will manage the cargo capacity and has named Platinum Air Cargo as its general sales agents in the United States and CargoOne in the United Kingdom.
   Shipments can also be accepted from Heathrow Airport in London JFK in New York thanks to trucking contracts with Platinum and Heathrow-based Worldwide Flights Services.
   'We are delighted to now offer cargo capacity, a vital part of our ongoing business strategy,' said Lawrence Hunt, Silverjet's chief executive. 'As the world's first carbon neutral airline, Silverjet is particularly keen to welcome customers who are looking to be more environmentally responsible with their supply chain and/or their travel plans across the Atlantic.'
   Michael Meagher, Silverjet Cargo's managing director, said: 'The fleet expansion plans of Silverjet over the next couple of years will allow us to offer more destinations providing a valuable stream of revenue to the airline.'
   Silverjet will take delivery of a second aircraft in June and a third in November. 'The entire fleet will offer the same potential for cargo and we plan to exploit it fully,' Meagher said.
