Davies Turner offers AEO advice British freight forwarder Davies Turner Air Cargo is leveraging its expertise from achieving European Union certification as an Authorized Economic Operator with vetted shipment security controls, creating a consulting group to help other companies qualify for trusted trader status and related benefits.
   Davies Turner Air Cargo said it is cooperating with customs advisors Bell Davies to provide the accreditation service. The United Kingdom’s Revenue and Customs recently approved Davies Turner Air Cargo, part of the largest independent freight forwarder group in the country, as meeting the EU’s supply chain security criteria.
   Other countries are also implementing industry partnership programs to protect the global trading system from being exploited by criminals and terrorists, and under the aegis of the World Customs Organization can agree to substitute the corporate validations of one national authority for their own as a way to standardize security compliance for international firms. The United States, which has its Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism program, and the EU hope to achieve this type of mutual recognition in 2009.
   Davies Turner said there at least 140,000 companies in the United Kingdom alone that could benefit from receiving AEO status. Shipments that are considered low risk, for example, are less likely to be delayed for inspection.
   Another level of AEO compliance is limited to customs compliance. A company an opt for customs, security or full AEO certification.
