ICAO, Singapore agree to partner in aviation training

The International Civil Aviation Organization and Singapore signed an agreement Monday to increase collaboration on training for the civil aviation sector, at the same time the republic is hosting the Singapore Airshow 2014.
The Memorandum of Understanding was formalized by Olumuyiwa Benard Aliu, president of the ICAO Council, and Lui Tuck Yew, minister for transport of the Singapore government.
“This cooperative agreement will help ICAO and Singapore to bring an increased level of focus to global and regional civil aviation training needs over the near-term,” Aliu stated in a release, “both for improved learning and human capital development opportunities.”
Aliu was in Singapore to give a keynote address at the Singapore Airshow Aviation Leadership Summit, where International Air Transport Association director general and chief executive officer Tony Tyler also gave an address.
“The most salient lesson of commercial aviation’s first century is the value of partnerships. Through partnership, industry and government made flying the safest way to travel. This is a good guide as we look ahead to aviation’s next century. No matter what the challenge, solutions built in partnership between industry and government are the most durable and yield the best results,” Tyler stated.
ICAO said the collaboration will involve training, professional programs, conferences, seminars, courses, instructors and the exchange of information in the civil aviation field.
