Freight Transport Association names new board

Freight Transport Association names new board Andy Haines, logistics chief at Tate & Lyle Sugars Europe, has been named president of the Freight Transport Association board of directors, succeeding John Russell of John G Russell Transport of Glasgow.
   Haines has been a vice president the past year for U.K.-based FTA, which represents the interests of companies moving goods by road, rail, sea and air.
   Haines joined Tate & Lyle in 1979 as an area manager for United Molasses, looking after a number of trading and operational interests in the Middle East, Eastern, Southern and West Africa, and in Brazil. In 1991, he moved to Tate & Lyle's United Storage division as managing director. He was named to the firm's Head of Logistics position in 2001.
   Other key positions named for the 2007-2008 board include:
   * Vice presidents: Adrian Burleton, commercial director for Argos Ltd.; and Rebecca Jenkins, managing director for Wincanton.
   * Treasurer: John Coghlan, chairman of Inchcape Shipping Services (UK) Ltd.
   * Board members: Roger Burnley of Sainsbury’s Supermarkets, Janet Entwistle of BT Fleet, Eddie Fitzsimons of Freightliner Group, Stewart Oades of Christian Salvesen plc, Alastair Parker of Shell International, John G Russell of John G Russell Transport, Perry Watts of Retail & Consumer DHL, John H Williams of Maritime Transport Ltd., and Chris Thorneycroft-Smith.
