British Airways cuts back flight schedule

   British Airways said it is canceling 966 flights to and from Heathrow Airport in London for three months during the winter season in order to maintain some slack capacity to help fill in when flights are delayed or aircraft must be taken out of service.
   The move will affect about 12 flights per day (2 percent), mostly on routes with multiple frequencies, out of 540 operated by the airline.
   Under the new schedule, freight forwarders will have slightly fewer shipping options and less available daily capacity.
   British Airways officials said the move is designed to give the airline some operational flexibility by not overextending itself at the world’s busiest airport. Officials said the move was not related to previous shortages for ticket agents, which caused many flight cancellations in August.
