U.S., India talks focus on high-tech trade

U.S., India talks focus on high-tech trade    U.S. Commerce Department and Indian government officials met to discuss ways to increase trade of high-tech goods between the countries.
   The meeting is part of fulfilling the U.S.-India High-Technology Cooperation Group, signed between the governments in November 2002.
   “Creating the conditions for a vibrant high-technology trade relationship is a key component of the administration’s overall agenda for fundamentally transforming U.S.-Indian relations,” said Commerce Undersecretary Kenneth I. Juster in a statement. “Both sides discussed changes in policy and regulation that can facilitate such trade and strengthen controls on the possible diversion of sensitive items.”
   Discussions included market access, tariff and non-tariff barriers, strategic trade and export controls.
   Input for the July 1 meeting came from more than 140 U.S. and Indian business representatives, Commerce said.
