Construction and logistics projects afoot for Nokia in India Finnish construction group Lemmink'inen will construct a $22 million logistics center for Nokia in Chennai, India, according to a statement released Monday.
   Meanwhile, Indian news outlets are reporting that UPS is trying to move in on Nokia's logistics business out of the cell phone giant's manufacturing facility at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai.
   The Times of India said the value of Nokia's India supply chain is roughly $53 million annually. Nokia's logistics have been managed by a combination of DHL, Indian firm Blue Dart, Gati and Panalpina.
   Nokia has produced almost 20 million handsets in the 11 months since starting production near Chennai. And Nokia will soon start manufacturing telecom equipment at the Chennai plant. UPS manages Nokia's warehouse, but wants to expand.
   “We are currently handling the entire vendor managed inventory (VMI) for Nokia at the Nokia Hi Hub at Sriperumbudur, but would like to extend this relationship and be able to offer a complete range of supply chain solutions,” a UPS official was quoted in the Times.
