Long Beach to solicit environmental comments on new terminal plan The Port of Long Beach is moving forward with plans to develop its last major parcel of open space into a container terminal, with two public input sessions scheduled to address the environmental review of the proposed terminal.
   The port will solicit public input in writing and with two public 'scoping' hearings Feb. 12 and 22.
   'We encourage members of the public to let us know what issues they think are important to include in our EIR (environmental impact report),' said Robert Kanter, the port's director of planning and environmental affairs, in a statement.
   The Pier S Development Project proposes to construct a 160-acre containerized cargo terminal to meet consumer and business trade demands, the port said. The project also proposes improvements to the port's Back Channel waterway to increase navigational safety.
   The Notice of Preparation for the project and initial studies are available on the Port's web site at https://www.polb.com/environment/environmental_documents.asp.
