Box volume up 10% at Marseilles-Fos

Box volume up 10% at Marseilles-Fos    Container throughput at the port of Marseilles-Fos increased 10 percent to 837,000 TEUs in the first 11 months of 2004.
   Volume at the Fos terminals, which handle east/west container services, rose 11 percent to 543,000 TEUs for January-November. The Marseilles terminals, through which north/south box volumes move, raised traffic 7 percent to 294,000 TEUs for the same period.
   Roll-on/roll-off and conventional traffic for the terminals remained static at 3.47 million tons and 2.83 million tons, respectively.
   Meanwhile, the Port of Marseilles Authority is introducing a sliding scale of tariff for 2005 based on the level of its earnings from its 22 core activities. Tariffs will rise by an average 1.7 percent, and the main adjustments will relate to charges for the use of cargo handling equipment, the authority said.
