Kuehne + Nagel to acquire Drude Logistik

   Kuehne + Nagel has entered an agreement to acquire Carl Drude, located in Hauneck/Bad Hersfeld, Germany.
   The Swiss logistics company noted the firm is located is in central Germany and said the purchase is in line with its strategy to further expand its European overland network and to establish a European hub-and-spoke system.
   “As of mid-2012, Kuehne + Nagel will operate daily lines to 50 European economic centers via this central platform,” the company said.
   Drude Logistik, founded in 1894, specializes in hub operations for international groupage networks. At Hauneck/Bad Hersfeld, it operates a 7,200-square-meter transshipment terminal with 105 loading bays.
   “Acting as our new Eurohub, it enables us to increase the number of departures, reduce lead times and achieve a better capacity utilisation due to a consistent consolidation and overnight transshipment operations,” said Dirk Reich, executive vice president at Kuehne + Nagel responsible for road and rail logistics. “The new routing via the Eurohub will be finalized until mid-2012.”
