Maersk Line to end direct Europe/Oceania calls

Maersk Line to end direct Europe/Oceania calls    Maersk Line will from early 2007 end direct services between Europe and Australasia as it focuses on a “network that will cater to the future shipping trends and demands of customers in the Oceania trades.”
   The weekly Oceania service will stop calls in Europe and become a direct connection to and from Australia and New Zealand and the U.S. East Coast. All cargo between Europe and Oceania will instead go through Maersk’s Malaysian hub at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas.
   The Oceania service will add calls at New Plymouth and Timaru in New Zealand, while Norfolk will be added to the U.S. rotation, “providing a first class access to the interior North America through a dedicated rail gateway.”
