Med Shipping extends two West Coast South America services to U.S.    Mediterranean Shipping Co. has extended to the United States two services connecting Mexico or the Caribbean with the West Coast of South America.
   The former weekly service that had connected Freeport, Bahamas and Caucedo in the Dominican Republic to the West Coast of South America now includes calls at Jacksonville. The revised “String 1” now uses five ships averaging 2,024 TEUs and calls Jacksonville; Freeport, Bahamas; Cartagena, Colombia; Callao; Arica; San Antonio; San Vicente; Buenaventura; Freeport and Jacksonville.
   Ships used on the former eight-day “Mexico/WCSA” service no longer call at Manzanillo on the West Coast of Mexico but, instead, are deployed on a new weekly “String 2” direct service between the U.S. Gulf and the West Coast of South America. The “String 2” link uses five ships averaging 1,356 TEUs and calls New Orleans; Houston; Freeport, Bahamas; Caucedo; Buenaventura; Guayaquil; Callao; Paita; Buenaventura; Freeport and back to New Orleans.
   Meanwhile, the former West Coast of Mexico/West Coast of South America service of MSC is now incorporated into the carrier’s recently started Asia/Mexico/West Coast South America “Andes Express” service.
