Port of Gothenburg gains new customer

Japanese automobile manufacturer Mazda has chosen the Port of Gothenburg as its new port of entry for its cars imported into Sweden.    The Port of Gothenburg, situated along Sweden’s west coast, has become the new port of entry for Mazda cars imported into Sweden, the port said.
   Luxembourg-based shipping company CLdN is responsible for the sea transport of the vehicles. Upon arrival at the port, Logent Ports and Terminals will handle the transloading of the cars for onward transport in Sweden.
   The Japanese automobile manufacturer’s cars bound for the Swedish market were previously shipped to Malmö, which is approximately 150 miles south of Gothenburg.
   Mazda’s head office in Sweden is situated just outside Gothenburg. Although the proximity to the port is a definite advantage, it was not the primary factor when selecting a new port of entry, Mazda Sweden Aftermarket Manager Stefan Sandberg said. “We regard it as a bonus,” Sandberg said. “The most important factor is that by using the Port of Gothenburg, we have a greater arrival frequency and a more efficient flow, which means that our cars can reach the customers even quicker than before.”
   The Port of Gothenburg is regarded as a significant hub for automobile shipments. In 2015, the port saw car volumes surge 29 percent year-over-year to 214,000 units, driven in part to Volvo, which posted record sales.
