Rigging International wins TraPac crane transport contract

Rigging International wins TraPac crane transport contract Alameda-based heavy-lift transport firm Rigging International has been awarded a $12 million contract to relocate nine gantry cranes at the Port of Los Angeles, including moving four to the East Coast port of Jacksonville, Fla.
   MOL terminal operator subsidiary TraPac Inc., which operates a 173-acre terminal at the Los Angeles port, awarded the contract to RI.
   Under terms of the contract, RI will reposition three new and two existing Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding post-Panamax container gantry cranes at the TraPac terminal. RI will also perform structural and electrical modification to four older MES gantry cranes at TraPac and then transport them via the Panama Canal to TraPac's new terminal at the Port of Jacksonville.
   Founded in 1969, RI specializes in waterfront heavy-lift rigging and transport and has been a key engineer of new techniques for the relocation and modification of container gantry cranes in major U.S. ports. RI has recently completed similar projects similar for Horizon Lines, Penn Terminals and Stevedoring Services of America.
