POMTOC GM Ballestero to retire

POMTOC GM Ballestero to retire    John Ballestero, senior vice president and general manager of the Port of Miami Terminal Operating Co. will retire, effective Aug. 12, the company announced.
   He has been with POMTOC for more than nine years.
   POMTOC said it has hired Charles J. Arocha, a 30-year maritime industry veteran and one of the partner's that formed POMTOC in 1994, to fill Ballestero's position.
   Ballestero was instrumental in constructing new high-tech gates and communications technology at the terminal to speed throughput of drayage trucks.
   POMTOC is the only non-carrier-owned, multiuser container terminal operator at the Port of Miami. It was created by the consolidation of four independent stevedores and terminal operators in the South Florida area to maximize limited space at the port. POMTOC's two remaining partners are Florida Stevedoring and Eller ITO.
