Agency to study investment and trade linkages between U.S., Asia    The U.S. International Trade Commission said it has launched the first of three investigations to assess the impact of U.S-Asia trade and investment trends on U.S.-China relations.
   The ITC undertook the investigations at the request of the House Ways and Means Committee.
   The initial study will analyze the links between trade and investment among Asia-Pacific countries and the United States. The study will review major industries, foreign direct investment and government policies that have influenced trade patterns.
   The United States runs a large trade deficit with China, and lawmakers have expressed concern about whether China practices fair trade.
   The ITC will hold a public hearing on the matter March 8 and deliver its first report by Oct. 2, 2007. The agency plans to complete its work within two years.
