Cargolux launches new pharma flights to Puerto Rico

The airfreight carrier on Oct. 2 will commence a new direct weekly service between Luxembourg and Aguadilla, Puerto Rico for refrigerated cargo, the company said in a statement.    Cargolux is expanding its cold chain services in Puerto Rico with a new weekly service, the company said in a statement.
   The Luxembourg-based airfreight carrier on Oct. 2 will commence direct flights from Luxembourg to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico for refrigerated cargo. Cargolux will operate the service with a 747-8F freighter aircraft, which it says is “ideally suited for perishable and cool chain shipments with its four independently adjustable climate zones, superior range and speed.”
   The news comes after Liege-based CAL last week said it would begin calling at Puerto Rico on its Tel Aviv-Liege-JFK-Rome service in September, and would begin using San Juan as a hub for pharmaceutical shipments.
   IAG Cargo earlier this summer also began offering bellyhold capacity on flights between San Juan and Madrid, Spain.
   Carglolux currently operates four other weekly services between Europe and Puerto Rico, primarily transporting pharmaceuticals, flowers and other perishables for shippers and forwarders in South and Central America. In addition, the carrier operates four indirect weekly flights that connect Luxembourg with Aguadilla.
