AGS starts same-day service

   AGS has unveiled 800SameDay, a service that guarantees delivery throughout the United States on the same day goods are shipped.
   According to AGS Chief Executive Officer Jim Tucci, the affordable service can, in some cases, be lower than some overnight services offered by AGS’ competitors.
   “We live in the age of now,” he said. “Customers are more demanding than ever. They want everything yesterday.”
   The company offers five levels of service that can be ordered through 800sameday.com, where customers can also check rates and track packages. The standard service, Next-Flight-Out, will get goods delivered within six to eight hours to any domestic location; AGS’ also offers Same Day Charter as another air cargo service. Same Day Heavyweight is reserved for shipments over 70 pounds. Same Day Local will deliver to any U.S. zip code, and Same Day Regional calls for ground delivery within 600 miles.
   AGS’ strategy is a bit different than other companies that have been moving toward same-day delivery, but the concept is the same. The U.S. Postal Service started testing a local, same-day delivery service in December in collaboration with 10 retailers, and the British company Shutl, which touts local shipments within 90 minutes, continues to prepare its U.S. rollout. – Jon Ross
