Hapag-Lloyd adjusts Med-ECNA loop

The German ocean carrier will add calls to its Mediterranean Gulf Express service, which operates between the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the East Coast of North America.    Ocean carrier Hapag-Lloyd is adjusting its Mediterranean Gulf Express (MGX) service, which operates between the Mediterranean, the Caribbean and the East Coast of North America.
   The MGX will add a westbound call at Port Everglades and an eastbound call at Tangier, resulting in a revised port rotation of Cagliari, Livorno, Genoa, Barcelona, Valencia, Port Everglades, Kingston, Veracruz, Altamira, Houston, New Orleans and Tangier, Hapag-Lloyd said.
   Port Everglades will initially be called by the MGX with the July 3 arrival of the Rio Charleston, while the loop will first call Tangier with the July 9 arrival of the Rio Grande Express.
   The MGX currently operates with seven vessels with an average capacity of 3,815 TEUs, according to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting. ZIM, Hamburg Sud and subsidiary line Alianca purchase slots on the loop.
   According to BlueWater Reporting’s Port Dashboard tool, only one service currently provides transits from the Mediterranean to Port Everglades, which is the TA6/MEDGULF loop, operated by the 2M Alliance, consisting of Maersk Line and MSC.
