CSAV raises $145 million

CSAV raises $145 million    Chilean container carrier CSAV has confirmed reports it has raised $145 million from existing shareholders, in the first step of a restructuring plan announced last month.
   The deal succeeded in “easily surpassing the original target of $130 million,' the company said in a statement. 'This capitalization is part of the $710 million plan to strengthen the company's financial position.
   “Despite the complex scenario that the shipping industry is facing, CSAV has achieved great success in its capitalization process, with current shareholders demonstrating great confidence in the company by underwriting 100 percent of this capital increase,” the company said. “The successful completion of this first stage of the capitalization process represents an important step forward towards the consolidation of CSAV as a first class partner for our customers and suppliers.”
   Late last month CSAV announced a group of ship owners “coordinated in Hamburg” has agreed to inject an additional $360 million into the company — reportedly in exchange for an equity stake, once the company completes two rounds of increasing capital — the one just completed and another for $220 million.
