Seaboard to launch new Peru-U.S. service

The Miami, Fla.-based ocean carrier will commence a new string between Paita, Peru and the United States Gulf and East Coasts starting Dec. 6, 2016, the company said in a statement.    Miami-based ocean carrier Seaboard Marine will launch a new weekly service between Peru and the United States Gulf and East Coasts starting Dec. 6, 2016, the company said in a statement.
   The new string will operate with dedicated vessels sailing from Paita, Peru to the ports of Miami, Houston, Philadelphia, and New York/New Jersey.
   “The service expansion is supported by a team of experienced professionals on both ends of the shipment, including a specialized import department to expedite clearance,” Seaboard Marine Vice President Piero Buitano said in a statement. “With one of the newest refrigerated container fleets in the industry, we are both eager and well prepared to handle northbound perishables from this unique market.”
   Seaboard did not immediately respond to an inquiry requesting more details on the type, number and size of the vessels to be used in the service.
   According to ocean carrier schedule and capacity database BlueWater Reporting, Seaboard currently operates a total of 20 liner and multi-purpose services, mostly between the East Coast of North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, as well as a handful calling in South America. None of the carrier’s existing strings call at Paita.
