In partnership with USTDA, MOI will initially develop and carry out two orientation visits to the United States and three overseas training sessions on an array of customs issues for delegates from Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Vietnam.
The orientation sessions, starting early 2008, will introduce senior customs officers from selected countries to U.S. government and private sector representatives, MOI said in a statement.
“The objective is to create long-term relationships and demonstrate U.S. commitment to international economic development,” the Washington-based international business consulting firm said. “The workshops will provide training to mid-level and senior-level customs managers from throughout South America, Central America, and Southeast Asia and introduce U.S. companies and technology provides to foreign markets and potential buyers.”
USTDA’s participation will offer assistance for border harmonization programs, create opportunities for U.S. firms to offer goods and services to overseas governments, and expand the global markets in which the U.S. industries can successfully compete. The Global Customs Initiative will also create opportunities for private sector participation through sponsorships and other in-kind contributions, MOI said.
