FEFC preparing new eastbound tariff, lowering BAF, CAF

Far East Freight Conference carriers are working on the application of a new eastbound tariff for April 1 as the lines seek to make further cost recoveries.
   The FEFC’s current eastbound tariff, covering both North Europe and the Mediterranean, was introduced on Oct. 1.
   “The implementation of the new tariff had been successful and has assisted lines in their move towards the goal of getting this large trade onto a more sustainable footing, however the results are still far from being sufficient to cover lines’ costs,” the FEFC said.
   Full details of the revised tariff will be made available in a “timely announcement.”
   Meanwhile, the FEFC will reduce their bunker and currency adjustment factors for February.
   The BAF applicable to the trade to and from the United Kingdom, Northwest Continent, Scandinavia and Baltic Sea will be $456 per TEU (from $482 per TEU) as it will also be for the Mediterranean and West Coast European region.
   The currency adjustment factor applicable for the month will be 14.6 percent, down from 14.8 percent.
