PO Shipping adds Oakland call

PO Shipping adds Oakland call    The startup container line Hainan PO Shipping has recently extended its transpacific CAE service to include Oakland, the Port of Oakland said in a statement Tuesday.
   The CAE service previously called only at Long Beach, Calif. on the North American side, with calls at Hong Kong, Yantian, Xiamen, Ningbo and Shanghai in China. The service was launched in August with calls at Ningbo, Shanghai, and Long Beach, but its rotation has steadily expanded since then.
   The service, according to American Shipper affiliate ComPair Data, is operated with five vessels (four from PO Shipping and one from TS Lines) with an average capacity of 3,075 TEUs. It's one of many new entrants on the transpacific in 2010, with Horizon Lines beginning its eastbound service from China to the U.S. West Coast in the last week and The Containership Company beginning its inaugural service in April.
   'Our expansion to serve Oakland demonstrates our commitment to provide a greater level of service to our customers,' said K.K. Chan, president of P O Shipping Agency (USA).
   PO Shipping operates a feeder network in China that connects the ports of Qingdao, Tianjin, Dalian, and Nansha to the CAE service by transshipment.
   The CAE’s first call at Oakland occurred Monday.
